CIJ Featured Shop: Victoria Sol Jewellery
Victoria Sol is the soul (and sole person) behind Victoria Sol Jewellery. She makes chainmaille jewellery as well as some macramé and beaded pieces and describes herself as always being creative. Through the years Victoria has played with paper, thread, wood, clay and other media, but when she finally started becoming more focused, she decided to would try her hand at macramé. Macramé is an art of knotting – you can create items, shapes and even clothing out of threads and cords knotted in various intricate ways. A friend taught her how to make friendship bracelets, and that was it, she was a craft addict!
Since this initial magical moment, Victoria has experimented with many different ways of making jewellery. She has played with wire, indulged her love for beads and semi precious stones. And, eventually, she discovered chainmaille.
Chainmaille is the technique of fitting many small rings together to create larger items. Victoria loves the weaving of individual rings, made of aluminium, steel, brass or other metals, into grand pieces fit for royalty – or simple everyday jewellery that will last forever.
Victoria weaves part of her personality into every piece she makes, her love for music is shown in her plectrum pendants, her geekiness comes out in the caged dice and her support for LGBT rights is evident in her rainbow coloured Pride accessories. Through doing this, Victoria hopes to share some of herself with the world, as well as enjoying making beautiful things that others can enjoy for years to come.
