Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #73, FeatherAndSixpence

Meet May, the artist behind FeatherAndSixpence, our current CraftBritannia Shop of the Week. May creates colourful and quirky illustrations.

When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?

When I’m not doing Etsy related things I am kept VERY busy by my month old baby daughter and my two year old son. Oh, and our dog and two cats!

What was the first piece you ever sold?

The first piece I ever sold was a painting of two lime and yellow feathers. I was SO happy I very nearly cried!

What material do you most enjoy working with?

I enjoy oil and acrylics on canvas most of all, but because the materials and postage would cost significantly more than my current watercolours I feel I need to wait until I have more sales before branching out!

If you could try a new craft, what would it be?

It would probably be printmaking, there are some amazing examples on Etsy!

Tell us about what inspires and motivates you

My motivation is my children, and wanting more for them – they are my life.

Tell us about one handmade item that you own and love

I own a really cool nursing necklace which is great for my daughter – I bought it on Etsy, of course 🙂

What plans do you have for your shop in the future?

In the future I want to do a nursery art collection for my shop – at the moment I do quite a few for children of friends and family, and it’s something I really enjoy.

Thank you May! Your paintings are gorgeous.
