Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #69, FuNkTjUnK
Please say hi to Kelly of FuNkTjUnK, a recycled, upcycled paradise and our latest CraftBritannia Shop of the Week .
When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?
Spending time with my family 🙂 My partner works away through the week & my girls are growing up quickly, so my weekends belong to them. That’s my fave time of the week. I also like watching movies (mainly old 80s ones) & listening to music, swimming, catching the odd festival through the summer, getting together with my friends once a month (usually at the pub), and looking after my 2 tarantulas. And it goes without saying the good old housekeeping – not really one of my fave activities but needs doing…!
What was the first piece you ever sold?
The first piece I ever sold was a custom Sid Vicious birthday card for a friend. I have been making my own cards & gifts for many years now to send as treats for family & friends. One friend loved the Sex Pistols card I sent her so much that she begged me to make a similar one for her partner, and paid me for it too! So, I thought I’d see if anyone else would buy my work … & they did 🙂
If you could try a new craft, what would it be?
If I could try a new craft it would be glass cutting/drilling. I have recently been making some bottle lamps & light fittings (it’s OK, my partner is a spark) but I would love to do more with the bottles. I also make candles & would like to be able to set some into bottles. I’m just a bit scared of breaking the glass, so would love to be shown how to do it.
Which piece of equipment would you be helpless without?
I would be helpless without my paintbrushes. I paint everything. With the right prep, paint & finish – you can transform the look of anything. I have my favourite brushes for certain jobs. I only use water based paints and take good care of them, so my fave brush is nearly 8 years old 🙂
Tell us about what inspires and motivates you
Other peoples junk, the weather, colours, music, mother nature, my Grandad (he is ace), going swimming, and proper coffee 🙂
Tell us about one handmade item that you own and love
My Totem Pole functional Garden feature, which I made myself using varying sizes of wooden cable drums. The whole piece is painted in bright funky colours and works as a stand-alone garden structure, or separates into a large table (the bottom piece) and three smaller stools (the top pieces). I love it – not only is it a cool looking addition in the garden, it has a purpose too and it’s unique!
What plans do you have for your shop in the future?
I have lots of gifts to be added before Xmas – I have made candles, lights, clocks, coasters & keyrings. I am most excited about listing my furniture range – just waiting for help with a photo shoot. I have up-cycled mid century dressers, drawers, chairs and chalkboards, and I have finally got my hands on another piano which is waiting in a garage for me to disassemble and re-purpose over the next few weeks 🙂
Thanks Kelly, we love your unique creations!
