Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #63, dottiedesignsxx

In our CraftBritannia Shop of the Week interview this week Susan, aka Dottie, tells us more about running her shop dottiedesignsxx, where she sells her handcrafted keepsake boxes, books and albums for special occasions.

Describe your “typical” working day or week

I work full time at my craft but juggle around 3 children and a busy home life. When I get home from the school run I tend to do some promotion first, then process orders & answer queries, then post parcels at Post office on the return School run!

When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?

I like sailing, swimming and the theatre. We also have a campervan so try and escape in it as often as possible for some fresh air, fun & the odd bottle of wine!

What was the first piece you ever sold?

I sold a personalized keepsake box for a baby boy. 3 years later the Mum tracked me down to get the same style for her baby girl! I loved that, as I feel my crafting has improved over the years – but she must have been happy in the first place 🙂

What material do you most enjoy working with?

I love paper, card, patterns, textures. I have rather a lot! Obsessive hoarding I think it’s called!

If you could try a new craft, what would it be?

I spent a day glass fusing and loved it – I would really like to try again but I feel it might be a little addictive!

Which piece of equipment would you be helpless without?

I fix my Swarovski Crystals on with a Hot Fix Gun – permanent fixing with no glue or mess – love it!

Tell us about what inspires and motivates you

I live 5 minutes from the sea and will walk down to the beach, especially in winter if I feel like I need a bit of inspiration 🙂

Tell us about one handmade item that you own and love

I have an awesome textile picture framed on my studio wall by Sharon Blackman (http://www.sharonblackman.co.uk) It really is gorgeous!

What plans do you have for your shop in the future?

I recently made it to 100 sales, and have a goal of 150 by the end of 2013.

Thank you Dottie! It is lovely to meet the creator of your gorgeous books.
