Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #53, WitchWayBeauty

This week our CraftBritannia Shop of the Week is WitchWayBeauty, where Joanne sells her delicious-smelling handmade soaps and bath salts. Read on for her interview…

Describe your “typical” working day or week

A typical working day for me is getting up at 4am and commuting into London at 5:25am for work. I start work at 7am most days as a contractor on London Underground. I’m usually home by 4pm. Then I spend time with my husband and cats, doing shop promotion and designing new products for my shop. I tend to make anything new on my days off.

When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?

You can usually find me with my head stuck inside a book or watching movies.

Fabulous Felted Soap by WitchWayBeauty

What was the first piece you ever sold?

A set of Winnie-the-Pooh soap on EBay

What advice would you give someone taking up your craft for the first time?

Make sure you do your research into the licenses and insurance. As I sell products that affect the skin everything must be tested before I can sell it. That’s where friends and family come in handy.

What material do you most enjoy working with?

I enjoy working with my essential oils, I’m always experimenting on new blends.

If you could try a new craft, what would it be?

I would love to learn how to make stained Glass windows, I keep meaning to join a college course to learn this.

Which piece of equipment would you be helpless without?

My soap moulds, I have boxes upon boxes of soap moulds and I love to pick and choose which ones I’m going to use for each project.

Tell us about what inspires and motivates you

Sights and smells around me, and products I find when I’m out and about.

Tell us about one handmade item that you own and love

One is a beautiful piece of Alice in Wonderland inspired artwork with one of my favourite quotes: “But I don’t want to go among mad people, said Alice. Oh you can’t help that said the cat. We’re all mad here”. I have this hanging in my bedroom.

What plans do you have for your shop in the future?

I’m looking to increase the amount of products I stock, and try to add 5 new products every month. I’m in the process of setting up my craft room so I have somewhere to keep everything, rather then spread around the kitchen 🙂

Thank you Joanne! Lovely to meet the person that creates these gorgeous products.
