Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #34, WillowsRoom
Alex from WillowsRoom tells us more about her creations in this week’s CraftBritannia Shop of the Week interview. Find a gorgeous array of bunting and accessories in her pretty shop!
Describe your “typical” working day or week
To be honest I don’t really have one at the moment. My youngest (Willow) has just started school, so I suddenly have all this extra time – which is lovely but also a bit weird! I’m trying to devote as much time as I can to “Willow’s Room”, so I’m spending most of the day sewing, looking for events or places to sell, and working on my Etsy photos and listings.
When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?
Spending time with my children, Sam who is 7 and Willow who is 4, my partner & family. We (don’t laugh!) own a caravan, so we are often seeking out new places for weekend getaways. I also love reading and buy so many books that I have broken our huge bookcase 🙂
What was the first piece you ever sold?
Some pirate bunting, last November at a school fundraising event. It was a great feeling that someone would actually buy something I had made!
What material do you most enjoy working with?
Beautiful fabric. I also have a thing for ribbon, and any kind of trimming!
If you could try a new craft, what would it be?
I’d love to be able to knit 🙂
Which piece of equipment would you be helpless without?
My sewing machine and my rotary cutter, it makes cutting bunting triangles so much quicker 🙂
Tell us about what inspires and motivates you
Fabric shops, Pinterest (I am slightly addicted), and Etsy – I’m always wowed by the talent of people who sell on Etsy!
What plans do you have for your shop in the future?
To add loads more stock and really grow my shop. I’m really new to all this, but ultimately I’d love to be able to make a (small) living from sewing 🙂
