Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #31, MadMumKnits
Liz of MadMumKnits is this week’s Shop of the Week. Our Craftbritannia champion chatter designs and makes a range of lovely knitted accessories and housewares.
Describe your “typical” working day or week
Due to the nature of the M.E illness the time I get up varies a lot, but after eating my banana I switch on the laptop, check my emails then go to Etsy to check up on the team chat. Depending on how much energy I have I may do some chores. If not I will sit and knit, sew up or design something. I would say on average I knit 5 hours a day. I’m always popping into the team for a chat. For someone with an illness that stops them going out as much as normal the team chat is great as you feel you are among friends. Sometimes its like having another person in the room with you.
When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?
When not doing Etsy related things I make cards for friends and family and also make some for charity. Cardmaking is very relaxing and I tend to lose myself for hours. I spend as much time as I can with my four, soon to be five, little grandchildren. They are all lovely and all have different personalities. Always plenty of cuddles and kisses when they are around. I also enjoy spending time with my children and their other halves. I mustn’t forget my lovely husband who puts up with all my yarn supplies and other craft items as well as going to the post office for me when he gets in from work!
What material do you most enjoy working with?
The answer to this is yarn! All types, from 100% wool to some of the fun yarns that are around. Its great seeing something evolve from a ball of yarn.
Tell us about what inspires and motivates you
Inspiration comes from all around or from a casual comment that sets an idea in my head. Motivation is to keep my brain and body working. Since coming on Etsy I have realised I have some talent, and now see myself as a knitter/designer with M.E – rather than an M.E sufferer who knits 🙂
What plans do you have for your shop in the future?
My first aim is to reach 100 listings by the end of the year. I am hoping in the near future to add a man’s section, also to expand and add more products to the baby section as well as designing some new patterns.
