Craft Britannia Shop of The Week #15, NaturalBathingCo
Meet Carrie of NaturalBathingCo, this week’s CraftBritannia Shop of the Week. Carrie creates gorgeous handmade soaps, bath bombs and lip balms from natural and skin friendly ingredients.
Describe your “typical” working day or week
I don’t have a typical working day at all! As a student a lot of my time revolves around my university work (I’m studying English Literature) and getting that done always comes first. If I were to take a day when I don’t have any assignments to get done, then this is roughly how it would go… I get up and have to have a glass of coke first thing in the morning – I don’t function without it! Some people need coffee, I need my sugar hit. I tend to log on to Etsy and check my shop stats to see how things are going before checking in with my teams to see how everyone is. I’m also the captain of a team so I set up any threads or do some promotion for the team events in that team first.
Generally I have 3-4 books to read a week, so I lock myself away in my bedroom after that until I’ve read at least half a book before I even think about touching my laptop again. That takes me to around dinner time at which I usually cook different things for me and my OH – I’m a ridiculously picky eater and don’t like the stuff he eats, which drives him up the wall. The fun stuff begins at around 7 o clock when I start feeling creative and can spend a couple of hours making sure that I’ve got plenty of each type of soap and lip balm before curling up on the sofa with my laptop to do some promotion on Etsy 🙂
When you are not doing Etsy related things, what are you doing?
Reading! I’m an absolute fiend for it and recently bought a kindle because I can’t fit any more paperbacks in my room! My favourite types of book are fantasy and sci-fi novels, but I am partial to a period drama every now and then. It always makes me chuckle to read people insulting each other politely!
What material do you most enjoy working with?
Unrefined cocoa butter is a delight. The smell is so chocolatey and it always gives me cravings for a good ol’ bar of Galaxy! I only use it in a few of my items, but the fact that it sits on top of my fridge to keep it cool means I get a good whiff every time I go to get something to eat or drink.
Tell us about one handmade item that you own and love
It would have to be my kindle cover, custom made for me by Louise from Loutul (shown above). It has a beautiful tulip design on it that really reflects my personality, since tulips are my favourite flower. Obviously, its also great for keeping my kindle safe as well!
If you could try a new craft, what would it be?
I’ve recently taken up cardmaking, but if I could try out another new craft then it would be jewellery making. Some people make some absolutely gorgeous items ,and I’d love to be able to do that myself and have people “oooh” and “ahhhh” over my creations like I do to others!
What plans do you have for your shop in the future?
Ooooh – this summer I plan on adding a lot more new items, and coming up with things such as sampler sets, new fragrances, lotion bars, massage bars, and maybe even whipped body butters – providing I actually go out and buy an electric handwhisk. Ours must be the only household that doesn’t own one! I’d love to be able to take my shop to the point where it is my full time job as well, so I’ll definitely need to expand – watch this space =)
Thanks Carrie! Your future plans sound wonderful!
