Please tell us a little about yourself

Hi, I am Joy and you can call me the Cutey Critter creator. I make knitted bunnies, cats, foxes and goodness know what next. I also make artist bears and cute rag dolls. You could say I am a big kid at heart, but sadly I am a grown up and have to do a day job.
I work in catering so my crafting takes place in the evening and weekends. I love my small garden and during the summer, this is something I really enjoy and I used to have my studio in the garden. I outgrew it around the time my eldest moved out so now have turned her room into a nice sewing room. Don’t worry though, there is still a lovely squashy futon if she wants to come stay with Mommy and Daddy.

What material do you most enjoy working with?

I love to create from fabric and mohair and faux furs when making my artist bears. I still would have to say that yarn is my most favourite way to work. I can still spend time with hubby and watch TV whilst I am creating. Stops him getting jealous, and knitting is the most relaxing part of my crafting as long as I don’t have to frog it and start again of course. I am currently enjoying soft fluffy mohair yarns for my newest designs.

If you could try a new craft, what would it be?

If there was a craft I should like to try, I would love to have a go at pottery. There are many ceramics and pottery littered in my Etsy favourites and it would be lovely, if a tad messy, to try that one day. I think probably best left to the experts though!

Which piece of equipment would you be helpless without?

On equipment I would be at a loss without, it would be my knitting needles I think. Although I have a sneaky suspicion I would start on any stick like object with a point just so I could knit! On a more serious note, I do think we crafters all need really good scissors, and I have several pairs for specific tasks and have learned by my mistakes never to use the wrong ones as they get spoilt very quickly. My poor family dare not go near any pair without consultation these days 🙂

Tell us about what inspires and motivates you

When creating a new critter, it is usually spotting a fabulous yarn in a shop, or sometimes a combination of colours in my yarn stash that I had never thought of putting together before. This is always exciting to try. In fact, it is these new yarns and a brand new vintage style bunny that I am using to create a new line, for my new sister shop which will be called ‘Blueberry Fudge’, also on Etsy. I hope to have this stocked and open for business very soon. This will be all strictly adult collectors artist creations and I shall keep the child friendly ones in Cutey Critters.

How can we keep in touch with you and your new creations?

My blog is called Perfect Little World and the address reflects the fact that I started on etsy with handbags. I still love bags and the blog remains the same for now. I talk about all manner of things and cakes are a regular feature. Come see me at

or on my facebook page @Cutey-Critters. I tweet as @CuteyCritters

Thank you Joy! A fun read and can’t wait to see Blueberry Fudge!
